Plant-Based Wellness, Rooted in Nature and Guided by Science

At Linden Botanicals, we believe that the most effective wellness solutions often begin with nature. For thousands of years, cultures around the world have relied on plants to support physical health, mental clarity, resilience, and vitality. Modern science continues to uncover the remarkable complexity of these traditional botanicals and the ways they may help support human health.

Our mission is simple: to bring you exceptional herbal teas and extracts sourced from the regions where they naturally thrive, prepared with care, and selected based on both traditional wisdom and scientific research.

We are not interested in trends, shortcuts, or mass-market supplements. We are passionate about helping people discover the remarkable potential of plant-based wellness through education, transparency, and thoughtfully sourced products. Our philosophy is grounded in science, rooted in nature, and guided by integrity at every step.

Our Story

A Personal Journey That Became a Mission

Linden Botanicals was founded by Michael Van der Linden after a long and challenging battle with Lyme disease.

Like many people facing chronic health challenges, Michael explored countless approaches in search of answers. Along the way, he discovered the profound role that carefully selected herbs and plant-based wellness practices could play in supporting overall health and recovery. One of the plants that made a lasting impression was Phyllanthus niruri, commonly known as Chanca Piedra, a remarkable herb traditionally used throughout the Amazon.

What began as a personal search for healing evolved into something much larger.

Michael became fascinated by the science behind medicinal plants, the cultures that have relied on them for generations, and the critical importance of sourcing herbs correctly. He quickly learned that not all herbal products are created equal. The species matters. The growing conditions matter. The timing of harvest matters. The processing methods matter.

Most importantly, the people and ecosystems behind every plant matter.

That realization became the foundation of Linden Botanicals.

Today, our goal is to help others access the same level of quality, education, and transparency that Michael sought during his own journey. Every herb we offer has been selected with purpose. Every product reflects years of research, global exploration, and a deep respect for nature.

Why We Exist

Helping People Optimize Health Naturally

We believe wellness should not be confusing.

People deserve access to clear information, thoughtfully sourced products, and companies they can trust.

Our focus is helping people support three interconnected aspects of well-being:

Physical Health

The body is an extraordinary system designed to repair, adapt, and maintain balance. We seek out herbs traditionally used to support healthy immune function, cardiovascular health, digestive health, healthy aging, and overall vitality.

Mental Clarity

Many traditional herbs have long histories of use for supporting focus, memory, concentration, and cognitive performance. We are passionate about helping people better understand the relationship between plant compounds and brain health.

Emotional Resilience

Modern life can place enormous demands on our emotional well-being. Adaptogenic and calming botanicals have been used for centuries to help the body adapt to stress and support a greater sense of balance.

Our goal is not simply to sell herbal products. Our goal is to educate, empower, and help people make informed decisions about their health.

We Travel the World to Find Exceptional Herbs

The Best Plants Come From the Right Places

One of the principles that sets Linden Botanicals apart is our commitment to sourcing herbs from the environments where they naturally thrive.

Just as wine grapes and coffee beans are shaped by their environment, medicinal plants are profoundly influenced by the conditions in which they grow. Soil composition, altitude, rainfall, sunlight, seasonal cycles, and local ecology all contribute to a plant’s chemical profile.

Scientists often refer to this concept as terroir.

The same species grown in different locations may contain significantly different concentrations of beneficial plant compounds.

That is why we seek out herbs from their native or ancestral environments whenever possible.

Examples include:

  • Phyllanthus niruri from the Peruvian Amazon
  • Cistus incanus from Crete
  • Cistanche tubulosa from the deserts of Mongolia
  • Terminalia chebula (Haritaki) from India
  • Traditional botanicals sourced throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America

Our sourcing process frequently begins with travel. We visit growing regions, meet suppliers face-to-face, learn from local communities, and gain firsthand understanding of how plants are cultivated, harvested, and processed.

Our Naturecrafting Philosophy

Many herbal companies talk about wild harvesting. While wild harvesting can be valuable, we believe the conversation should go deeper.

Our approach is something we call naturecrafting.

Naturecrafting combines the strengths of responsible wild harvesting with the consistency and stewardship of thoughtful cultivation.

This approach allows us to protect ecosystems while helping ensure quality, purity, and sustainability.

Naturecrafting includes:

  • Collecting seed stock from wild populations to preserve genetic diversity
  • Avoiding monoculture growing practices whenever possible
  • Cultivating plants within natural environments and native ecosystems
  • Using sustainable harvesting techniques
  • Timing harvests to coincide with peak phytochemical development
  • Protecting plant populations for future generations
  • Eliminating unnecessary pesticides and contaminants

Naturecrafting allows us to work with nature rather than attempting to control it.

The result is a sourcing model designed to support both ecological health and product quality.

Wild Harvesting With Purpose

Protecting Plants, Ecosystems, and Communities

Many herbal ingredients are harvested without sufficient attention to sustainability. In some regions, overharvesting has placed pressure on valuable plant populations and threatened local ecosystems.

We believe there is a better way.

At Linden Botanicals, responsible wild harvesting means:

  • Respecting natural plant populations
  • Supporting regeneration and biodiversity
  • Protecting native habitats
  • Encouraging long-term ecological stewardship
  • Working closely with local communities
  • Supporting fair and ethical labor practices

Our partners use harvesting techniques designed to minimize environmental disruption while helping ensure future generations can continue to benefit from these remarkable plants.

In regions facing environmental challenges, we support initiatives that promote ecosystem restoration and biodiversity. This regenerative mindset influences every stage of our sourcing philosophy.

The Human Side of Herbal Sourcing

Every herbal product begins with people.

Behind every tea leaf, root, berry, mushroom, or medicinal plant is a community of growers, harvesters, processors, and families whose livelihoods depend on the land.

That is why we place such a strong emphasis on building direct relationships with our suppliers.

Over the years, we have:

  • Shared tea with harvesters in the Amazon
  • Visited farming cooperatives in India
  • Explored traditional botanical practices in Morocco
  • Met growers and processors throughout Asia, Europe, and South America
  • Walked fields, forests, deserts, and mountains where medicinal plants naturally grow

These experiences provide far more than sourcing opportunities.

They allow us to understand the entire journey of a plant and help ensure that our partners share our commitment to quality, sustainability, and ethical practices.

We believe that great herbal products begin with mutual respect and long-term relationships.

Transparency You Can Trust

Knowing What You’re Putting into Your Body

Consumers deserve more information about the products they purchase.

Unfortunately, many herbal products provide little insight into where ingredients come from, how they were sourced, or whether the correct species was used.

We take a different approach.

Whenever possible, we want to know:

  • Where a plant was grown
  • When it was harvested
  • How it was dried
  • How it was processed
  • How it was transported
  • Who participated in each stage of production

This level of traceability helps support consistency, quality, and accountability throughout the supply chain.

Transparency is not a marketing slogan for us. It is a core value.

Science and Tradition Belong Together

Respecting Ancient Knowledge While Embracing Modern Research

Some companies focus exclusively on traditional use. Others focus only on scientific literature.

We believe both perspectives matter.

Traditional herbal systems contain centuries, and sometimes thousands of years, of accumulated knowledge. At the same time, modern research helps us better understand the chemistry, biological activity, and potential applications of medicinal plants.

We regularly review scientific studies, historical uses, and emerging research to better understand the herbs we offer and to provide educational resources for our customers.

Our goal is not to chase trends.

Our goal is to identify botanicals with meaningful histories, promising research, and a strong record of traditional use.

Why Quality Matters

Not All Herbs Are Created Equal

A product label may tell you the name of an herb, but it often fails to tell the full story.

Two products with the same plant name can differ dramatically in quality due to:

  • Species selection
  • Geographic origin
  • Soil quality
  • Harvest timing
  • Processing methods
  • Storage conditions
  • Freshness

This is why we spend so much time evaluating sourcing and supply chains.

We believe customers should receive herbs that reflect the highest standards of quality, purity, and authenticity.

Anything less misses the point.

Our Commitment to You

When you choose Linden Botanicals, you are choosing more than an herbal tea or extract.

You are choosing a company committed to:
