Lessons from the Darkness
If you or someone you care about has suffered from chronic illness and sought chronic illness support, you know how pernicious such an illness can be to your physical, mental, and financial health. Everyone’s coping mechanisms are different, and some work better than others. Some days — the ones involving intense physical, mental, and emotional struggle — can feel almost hopeless.
Michael Van der Linden, owner of Linden Botanicals, struggled with Lyme disease for almost four years. During that time, he fell into all the common traps. He sought advice from every corner. He saw many doctors. He tried one costly “cure” after another. He stayed away from areas where ticks thrive and remediated environmental conditions like mold.
Lyme disease took a toll on his health, his bank account, his ability to hold down a job, his social life, and even his sense of self worth. As is the case with many people who suffer from chronic illness, the results were devastating.
Chronic Illness Support
Lyme disease did more than dominate Michael’s life – Lyme disease became his life. He started to chase sickness.
Chasing sickness involves an endless loop of seeing doctors and specialists to diagnose each new symptom. It involves trying one expensive new medication after the other (each with its own onslaught of side effects). It involves spending exhausting hours each week scouring National Institutes of Health articles, health concern forums, and message boards in search of a magic bullet. Michael chased sickness for years.
And then he sought a different kind of chronic illness support. He healed himself with the right foods, drank the healthiest tea in the world three times a day, became more mindful of the world around him, and turned to friends and family for emotional support. He learned to be kinder to himself and reminded himself daily that he is not his illness.
It’s Time to Pursue Health. Start Now.
Eventually Michael got well. So what did he do to finally overcome chronic illness? He took intentional steps to optimize his health.
