We started Linden Botanicals because we believe in the value of plant-based health and evidence-based medicine. We have spent years doing research on the uses and benefits of the plants we offer. Nature is our factory. The right terroir, geography, naturecrafting, time of year, and growth cycles make all the difference.

To that end, we have visited tea factories and tea fields. We have spent time in women’s co-ops, schools, hospitals, Ayurvedic retreats, Peruvian Amazon villages, riads, souks, and centers for peace. Our purpose and our passion are to learn everything we can about the world’s healthiest teas and extracts — and the places where those teas and extracts are sourced — in order to help our customers optimize their health.

We Sell the Healthiest Teas in the World

Linden Botanicals sells only the world’s healthiest teas — teas that repair the body’s systems. Where the plants come from and when they’re picked all make a difference. We always want to be sure we (and our customers) are getting the plants that are the best quality of their type.

For example, Phyllanthus niruri (Chanca Piedra) comes from the Amazon in Peru, Cistanche tubulosa is found in Mongolia. Terminalia chebula is from a tree in India. As with grapes, the terroir matters for its phytochemical value.

We start by visiting the countries and growers for teas we are interested in sourcing. We’ve traveled to China, India, Peru, Morocco, Greece, and many other countries in search of the healthiest teas in the world — the ones that truly have the potential to help people optimize their health.

In Peru, we explored the Amazon jungles to find Phyllanthus niruri. In India, we went out into the fields and met members of women’s cooperatives. In the Indian village of Koyilandy, Hindu and Muslim women have invested limited resources and boundless energy to start a thriving fruit and vegetable co-op. They are supporting their families, improving their social standing in the male-dominated society, and gaining financial independence. They are building a future one day at a time, and, as we saw firsthand, they’re doing it together.

Sustainable Sourcing and Fair Trade

Many wild-harvested herbs are collected without regard for the long-term effects on the species in question or the environment. Many of the healthiest teas in the world come from plants that are threatened and in danger of going extinct. In addition, other plants are not available as a result of protective legislation. These problems are widespread across the globe.

Linden Botanicals strives to our part to reverse this trend. First, we support sustainable projects that use ecologically friendly methods of farming and harvesting. Second, we work with our partner farms to promote a culture of naturecrafting. This practice helps prevent over-harvesting by teaching and encouraging natural setting cultivation. It also encourages respect for the life of the plant and the use of sustainable techniques like root dividing, pruning, and seed collection and re-planting.

In addition, we support local programs that create value in sustaining the environment rather than abusing it. One such program helps reverse expanding desertification in the Gobi.

Linden Botanicals supports non-violent fair trade. Our product stream does no violence to the environment. We also pay a fair trade price for our products. In addition, our product stream supports fair labor conditions, as well as local community involvement and development.

Why Our Sourcing Philosophy Matters

Morocco is a good example of our sourcing philosophy. We went with an open mind to learn from local traditions. What we learned has convinced us to add Argan oil to our tea store. It has a nutty flavor and can be used as a carrier oil for other herbs (a very different use from the hair products you may be familiar with). The trip was amazing. The people were all so friendly and inviting. Plus, we got to ride camels into the dunes of the Sahara Desert, drink Moroccan mint tea, camp in the desert, and see the Milky Way without city light pollution.

Ultimately, of course, the point of visiting the countries where we source our teas and extracts is to get to know the people collecting and drying the plants. Having tea with growers is a great way to get to know them. At every stage, we want to be sure that the process is fair for everyone involved in growing and sourcing the plants and that every plant is organic and processed in FDA-certified facilities. Some companies pay workers a fraction of a penny, so meeting with the entire supply chain helps ensure workers are getting fair wages.

We aim to be conscious of the whole process while educating customers about the plants and their benefits. Drinking teas and extracts made from the plants we sell is all about optimizing health. Like our customers, we will only consume the healthiest teas in the world. We won’t settle for anything less.
